Fat Grafting in New Jersey

Fat Grafting | Selphyl® Injections | Bernardsville | ChesterFat Grafting, also known as Autologous Fat Transfer or Liposculpture, is a surgical procedure that involves restoring lost volume in the face with the patient’s own fat, taken from the abdomen, thighs or other areas. This procedure is effective in treating sunken cheeks, facial lines, acne scars and other areas of lost volume that have developed as a result of aging, sun damage and other conditions.

Unlike fillers and other volume-enhancing treatments, fat grafts are taken from the patient’s own body, and as a result cannot cause an allergic reaction. The fat is naturally accepted by the body. Autologous Fat Grafts also last longer than synthetic materials.

New Jersey Fat Grafting Procedure

During the Fat Grafting procedure, fat is harvested from the donor area by inserting a cannula and suctioning out the fat, similar to liposuction. This is done under Local Anesthesia to minimize any potential discomfort. The harvested fat is then purified so that only the fat cells are grafted. Once the fat is ready to be placed, it is injected into the targeted area through a cannula until the desired appearance is achieved.

This procedure is performed on an outpatient basis in your doctor’s office or a surgical facility. Because of the different aspects involved, treatment time can vary significantly depending on each patient’s individual procedure.

Results and Recovery

Patients may experience mild swelling and bruising after the Fat Grafting procedure, which can be minimized by icing the area. Fat grafts usually last longer than fillers and other volumizing treatments, and are considered safe for most patients since no foreign material is being injected into the body.

Selphyl® before and after photo

Selphyl® is a unique anti-aging treatment that utilizes nutrients within the patient’s own blood to increase skin volume and rejuvenate the skin for noticeable yet natural-looking enhancements. This treatment is considered safe and effective for patients with all skin types, as it uses no foreign materials and is minimally invasive.

Injected just below the surface of the skin, Selphyl® can help reverse the signs of aging in the skin, including eliminating or improving the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and sagging skin. It is most effective in treating the nasolabial folds, hollowed cheeks and other unwanted lines, and can also be used for acne scars, pock marks and nearly any other area of the skin that requires extra volume to restore a more defined appearance.

Selphyl® injections are ideal for patients of any skin type or ethnicity, although should not be performed on patients with blood clotting issues, who take blood thinning medications, or those who are currently treating an infection. Your doctor will determine whether or not you are an ideal candidate for this treatment based on a thorough evaluation of your skin and overall health. For effective results, it is important for patients to maintain realistic expectations.

New Jersey Selphyl® Treatment

During the Selphyl® treatment, your doctor will remove a small sample of blood from the patient, from which platelets and fibrin are removed and concentrated into larger volumes. This mixture, known as a Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM), can then be injected into targeted areas of the skin to increase volume and rejuvenate the overall appearance of the skin as it stimulates tissue and collagen production.

Selphyl® injections are performed in your doctor’s office and take about 20 minutes. A local anesthetic may be used to reduce any discomfort associated with the injection, although this treatment is usually tolerated well. Many patients achieve their desired results in just one treatment, although additional injections may be required. Your doctor will develop a customized treatment plan for you based on the condition of your skin and your goals for treatment.

Results of Selphyl®

After a Selphyl® injection, growth factors are released into the skin for up to seven days to stimulate the production of collagen, which gives the skin a full, healthy and youthful appearance. For most patients, results are visible immediately and will continue to improve as swelling subsides. Full results may not be visible until three weeks after treatment as volume builds gradually.

While the results of Selphyl® injections are not permanent, they are highly effective in restoring the appearance of skin and helping patients continue to look younger than they would with no treatment at all.

Safety of Selphyl®

Since only the patient’s own blood is used during this treatment, there is virtually no risk of allergic reaction or complications associated with this treatment. Most patients experience only mild side effects such as irritation, swelling, bruising, itching and discoloration at the injection site, which usually subside within two days. Your doctor will discuss the safety of Selphyl® with you, as well as address any concerns you may have, prior to treatment.
