Which Injectable is Ideal for You?Tuesday, July 19th, 2016, 7:46 pm
At Rejuv Cosmetic Center, we provide an extensive selection of facial fillers and injectable treatments to smooth away lines and wrinkles, restoring a more youthful appearance, without the potential risks and downtime associated with surgery. We have many solutions custom-tailored for each patient’s individual aesthetic goals and needs.
Botox® vs. Dermal Fillers
Amid the most widely-used injectables are neuromodulators. Neuromodulators are part of a family of injectables containing Botulinum toxin type A, which relaxes facial muscles. The most common neuromodulators are Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®, amongst which Botox® is the most prevalent. Neuromodulators are most applicable for treating vertical and horizontal wrinkles around the eyes and forehead, such as frown lines and Crow’s Feet.
For a superior outcome, the entire face must be taken into consideration. Since neuromodulators cannot add volume or provide support beneath the skin, they cannot improve facial contours or treat certain types of wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds (parenthesis around the mouth). Subsequently, dermal fillers are frequently used in conjunction with neuromodulators.
Dermal fillers complement neuromodulators. Instead of targeting facial muscles, fillers offer support to the underlying skin structures, restoring volume that is lost due to the aging process. They fill in wrinkles; smoothing them away from the inside, out.
Dermal fillers are ideal for softening deeper wrinkles and creases in the face and around the mouth; like nasolabial folds, wrinkles and lines on the lips and around the mouth, and those extending down to the jawline. Fillers can also be used to create plumpness in lips, enhance shallow contours and diminish the appearance of recessed scars.
Which Dermal Filler is Best?
When it comes to selecting the best dermal filler for you, there are many options available to Rejuv Cosmetic Center patients. These include: Juvéderm® Injectable Gel, Perlane®, Radiesse®, Restylane®, Sculptra®. Juvéderm® Injectable Gel and Restylane® are both FDA-approved Hyaluronic Acid (HA) fillers that instantly smooth moderate to severe wrinkles for up to 1 year.
- Juvéderm® Injectable Gel is best suited for moderate to severe facial wrinkles and offers results that last up to 1 year. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC is an available option to restore volume in the cheeks and can last up to 2 years. JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC is the only FDA-approved filler to increase lip fullness and softens the appearance of lines around the mouth. Results typically last for 1 year.
- Restylane® is the name associated with a family of fillers. Each is uniquely designed to treat different facial areas, including a formula specifically created for adding plumpness to the lips. Restylane® lasts approximately 6-12 months.
- Radiesse® is a calcium hydroxylapatite filler that creates immediate results and stimulates the body to create its own, natural collagen. Radiesse® lasts up to 1 year.
- Sculptra® is poly-L-lactic acid volumizer that helps to replace lost collagen in key areas, including the temples. It offers gradual results that develop over time. Sculptra® lasts up to 2 years.
Regarding the selection of injectable, it’s important to consider treatments that will target the areas you’d like to have treated, how quickly you’d like to see results, and the longevity of those results. Your unique bone and muscle structures and any aesthetic imbalances that may exist must also be taken into consideration, so that the entire facial appearance is aesthetically pleasing.
